This is the third phase of the enhancement of the Science facilities at Loughborough Grammar School.
The first phase consisted of the construction of a completely new two storey building for the Chemistry Department. The Diamond Wood Partnership were responsible for all the structural and drainage design work for this project.
The second phase of the upgrade in science facilities consisted of the extension and refurbishment of the Biology Building. Whilst retaining the original single storey building the scheme involved extending at ground level and also providing two additional large classrooms together with preparation areas at first floor plus the necessary staircases. To reduce the additional loading to the existing structure, all the first floor construction was lightweight.
The Diamond Wood Partnership again had the responsibility of designing all the structural and drainage elements of the project.
The Physics project consisted of the complete refurbishment of an existing 'clasp' building built originally in the 1960's.
Once stripped out only the steel frame, floors and roof were retained and these were to be substantially altered. In particular two new staircases were to be provided involving trimming work and the ground floor slab was to be removed in areas to accommodate new drainage and services.
In addition to the structural alterations, revised foul drainage to suit the new toilet facilities and upgraded surface water drainage was designed and detailed.
