Fergus has more than 30 years wide ranging experience in conceptual and final structural design and specification of elements and structures incorporating all principle building materials within the Commercial, Retail, Leisure, Education, Health and Residential sectors.
Fergus was a Senior Engineer with the fledgling Diamond Wood Partnership when it was founded in 1990, ultimately becoming an Associate Partner before leaving to pursue an alternative career with Hyder Consulting, both in the UK and Middle East, and as an Associate Director with Faber Maunsell / AECOM, before re-joining the Partnership in 2010.
In 2012 the company developed into Diamond Wood and Shaw Limited, with Fergus taking on Managing Director responsibilities.
Fergus is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and Forum for the Built Environment as well as being a Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers. He has served on the Midland Counties Branch Committee as Secretary and Chairman and is still involved in Branch activities. He has also served on Council, the Technical Publications Panel, Professional Conduct Committee Small Practitioners Panel at IStructE Headquarters in London.

In 2003, we welcomed David to the team as Senior Structural Engineer. During his time in that role he established a record of innovative cost effective engineering design solutions using all types of building materials for small, medium and large/multi-storey projects across all sectors. In 2017 we were delighted to announce he had accepted the role of Associate Director - Engineering.
Since joining us, David has worked as Principal Design Engineer on many of our prestigious and large building projects, one in particular is the conversion and extensive refurbishment of an existing multi-bay former factory building to form the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Leicester. This building is so distinctive that it was nominated ProCon 2012 Regeneration Project of the Year Finalist.
Originally, David’s engineering design experience has been with large multi-disciplined Consultancies, however, before joining DWS he had spent several years working as Senior Engineer for a leading technologies company where he was responsible for the design of strengthening schemes for a variety of towers, monopoles and Stayed masts.
David also has a special interest in IT development and whilst he has developed complex in house computer programmes he is key to ensuring that we use the most up to date technology.
Russell joined the company as a Technical Development Manager in 2013 after 13 years jointly running his own technical design consultancy. Since then his level responsibility has grown significantly and now holds the position of Associate Director - Technical.
He directly manages our team of experienced technicians and will oversee the detail and drawing production for the larger, more demanding projects acting as the Technical Lead. He is also the first point of contact for all CAD and Revit based enquiries, training and updates and ensures our staff are fully trained in the latest Autodesk technologies. Having worked to BIM Level 2 since 2013, he also promotes collaborative working with any client wishing or needing to implement this level of detail.
Russell also looks after our project planning and programming which involves building excellent client relationships and brings cohesion to the day to day offices activities. This ensures our work is always delivered on schedule and, to high standards. Another part of his role is to continually develop our standard detailing procedures, this covers all in-house details and any specific client requirements, which delivers maximum efficiency and smooth workflows.
Prior to joining the company Russell’s experience in the construction industry has covered many sectors including Civil and Structural Engineering, Technical Architecture, M and E Contracting, Product Design and High End Interior Detailing where he worked on the prestigious One Hyde Park development in London amongst many others. This experience has proved invaluable over the years, especially when understanding the requirements of other design team members.
Richard joined our structural design team in 2007 and now having over 20 years experience in structural engineering has accrued a wealth of knowledge in a variety of project types. Richard is a specialist in the design of timber frame constructions and principally works with our large housing/building developers and now has a record of utilising modern cost efficient engineering techniques using timber, steel and concrete for small, large and multi-storey buildings.
Following graduation from University of Warwick, Laurence joined us as a Graduate Engineer in 2013. Over the 5 years he has been with us he has become an accomplished Engineer working on a variety of projects from domestic extensions to multi storey housing developments and, with his knowledge of timber frame construction design, Laurence has become a valued member of our structural design team now holding the position of Structural Engineer.
In 2006 Rebecca joined us as part of our infrastructure team. As Senior Infrastructure Engineer she has established relationships with Local Authorities and Utilities companies and, with over 14 years experience, she is adept in the design and detailing of road and drainage schemes for a vast array of projects for both private and commercial developers and for Local Authorities.
Rebecca is also accomplished in the production of Flood Risk Assessments and Sustainable Drainage System designs [SuDS] for all types of new developments.
Tony graduated from the University of Sunderland with a BEng Civil Engineering (Hons) Degree with Management.
On leaving university Tony began his career with Laing Technology Group as an Infrastructure Engineer. Now with over 20 years experience in all aspects of infrastructure engineering and team management, working with companies such as Jelson Limited and David Wilson Homes, he has joined us as Senior Infrastructure Engineer putting to good use his experience of working with Local Authorities, Housing Associations and Private Developers on large and small commercial and residential projects.
Our Team of Technicians, Jacob Joseph, Nicola Evans, Simon Hayes and Stefan Bozhilov, are all trained in the use of the most up to date technology and they offer skilled and professional support to our Structural and Infrastructure Engineers.
Elizabeth’s background is commercial and joined the company in 2001 as PA. Her role has developed over the years she has been with us and now includes commercial, financial and HR Administration responsibilities and she now holds the position of Office Manager.
